nested VLAN IDs

Hi all,

I am wondering if it is possible to share a VLAN between an ESXi server and nested ESXi server?

Normally I would have VLAN ID 184 on the outer ESXi server and promiscuous mode set to accept on the host port group to which the virtual ESXi host is attached and no VLAN ID or ALL set for the inner nested ESXi network.

And I have found that does work as far as network connectivity because the virtual ESXi will receive the traffic from the outer ESXi VLAN.

But I want to set a VLAN ID of 184 on both the outer ESXi and the virtual ESXi network so that the inner virtual ESX network shows a VLAN ID of 184 as well.

Now what I see is as that as soon as I set any value for the VLAN ID on the inner virtual ESXi network it gets isolated and loses network connectivity.

Is there some way I can share the VLAN ID across both the outer and inner virtual ESXi instances?

Thank you,

Luke
